The Mersey Dee Alliance (MDA) was born out of the recognition of
shared economic, social and environmental interests across the West
Cheshire, Wirral and North East Wales area.
A new Partnership was formed in April 2007, which now comprises
the local authorities of Cheshire West and Chester, Denbighshire,
Flintshire, Wirral, Wrexham, and the Welsh Assembly Government,
North West Regional Development Agency and Merseytravel, built from
a strong foundation of joint working since the 1990’s.
The North East Wales / West Cheshire / Wirral area is unique in
the UK as a major economic area divided by a national boundary. The
area has a great diversity of businesses and a metro economy as
well as a large rural hinterland and coastal commuter belt and is a
major contributor to the UK economy.
The partnership recognises that the area represents a single
economic sub-region with a population of close to 1 million which
is divided by a national boundary.
Partners agree to work together on common strategic interests to
ensure a sustainable future the for the area, and facilitate a
coherent approach to social, economic and environmental issues.
The MDA addresses the strategic, cross-boundary issues that
affect the area as a whole so as not to duplicate local activity
and to ensure it creates added value.
