Ellesmere Port firms urged to back electric vehicle scheme

Plugged in Places (PiP) is a Government funded scheme to support the installation of electric vehicle charging points and provide a network of places that electric vehicle owners can charge up their vehicles.

These will be at readily accessible places like retail and leisure facilities, car parks and workplaces.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has joined forces with Liverpool City Region to bid for PiP funding to install new charging points in Ellesmere Port town centre and in Liverpool city centre.

There is an opportunity for businesses in Ellesmere Port to get involved either by installing a charging point or by considering changing all or part of their fleet to electric vehicles. There is also the chance for developers to incorporate charging points into new housing developments.

In Ellesmere Port this will all be linked in with the re-development of the town centre, as well as to speculation that the new Vauxhall Ampera electric car might be built at the Vauxhall Ellesmere Port plant.

Briefing sessions aimed at organisations wishing to find out about the advantages of using electric vehicles are being held on Friday, September 17 from 9.30am-11am and Wednesday, September 29 from 9.30-11.30am. Both meetings are taking place at Room C, 24 Hatton Garden, Liverpool, L3 2AN.
